Florida vacation 2006

FLORIDA VACATION FEBRUARY 5 - 12 2006
We decided to look for a warmer place to go and stay for a week
complete with beach,
so we chose Redington Beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
It was a great place to stay but the weather/temperature was a bit
un-seasonable for this time of year.
It was in the low to mid 60s deg. F, (normally low to mid 70s deg.F)
but with a heated swimming pool and hot tub at hand it was manageable
and better than snow!
Redington Beach is one of 7
town "beaches" situated on a 25 mile strip of land running
North/South
off the west coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico.
The strip of land is really a huge sand dune which creates an inter
coastal waterway.
Redington
Beach is roughly at the mid point with Clearwater beach at the top and
St. Petersburg beach at the bottom.

Accommodation pictures
We stayed in a 3-bedroom condominium at the San
Remo.
It
was situated right on the beach with our balcony, 2nd one down on
the left, overlooking the beach. A bit big for us but these were the
only ones that faced the gulf...........and you have to face the Gulf!! |
Beach
pictures etc.
Great beach with white sand and turquoise water.
NOTE:
A storm was brewing the day the above picture was taken. |

St
Petersburg
We visited this
up-side-down pyramid shaped Pier, which is hi-lighted as a St
Petersburg attraction. |
A
visit with Bob and Angie
They have retirement home in Florida in a (hard to
find and equally hard to find your way out of) place called Leesburg.
It was about 1 3/4 hours away from us but by the time we got there it
was 3 hours!! |

Ken's
Local
This place is quite different or
bizarre as Helen would put it!!
But a place to
visit if you are in the neighborhood
|
John's
Pass
A "must see" place located on the intercoastal
waterway.
Great for buying souvenirs, sea food restaurants, short dinner/dance
cruises or rent your own boat or wave-runner. |

Sea
Bird Sanctuary
Located
next door to where we stayed, this Sea Bird Sanctuary is a
fascinating place to visit. It is free to go in but welcomes donations.
It
is a hospital for sick/injured sea birds to stay until they recover, or
in some cases live out the rest of their lives if they are not able to
fend for themselves after recovery.
All of the birds in the following pictures were "lifers" and mostly
Pelicans. The injured birds that would eventually be released are not on
display.
The bird above on the left was not injured. We figured it must have
been visiting time so he was just walking around looking for his mates. |
